The Epoch Times, in collaboration with luxury Swiss watchmaker, Corum and its retail partner, Cortina Watch hosted ‘Bridges of Hope’ on 14 November 2017, a charity event that raised awareness of the underprivileged in Nepal, through NGO John Foundation Nepal.
The invitation-only event, graced by Mr Ralph Steinegger, Consul at Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore and attended by 30 VIPs, featured Corum’s iconic Golden Bridge watch collection and talks by renowned musicians, including Dr John Sharpley, founder of John Foundation Nepal.
The John Nepal Foundation not only empowers Nepali children and orphans, but also promotes the inter-connectivity of humanity through music and musical interactions among musicians.
Dr John Sharpley, together with Nepali violinist, Sabin Munikar and his Singaporean co-violinist Yong Kai Lin, performed two sets of folk numbers aimed at creating awareness of underprivileged musicians in Nepal. The first set, consisting Nepali folk music, includes Fusion, a jazz-traditional blend, composed by Munikar. The second set comprising a medley of Malay folk songs, such as Burung Kakak Tua, Dayang Sampan, and Rasa Sayang, was presented with Singing Bowls and free improvisation musical style.
