Ms Dannie Cheng, a New Tang Dynasty TV host, and Dr Hu Naiwen, a renowned Chinese physician from Taiwan, gave an inspiring, introductory talk about Shen Yun Performing Arts, on January 8, in Singapore.

Dr Hu spoke about cultural arts and spirituality, from the perspective of a Chinese physician, while Ms Cheng covered the creative and classical aspect of fashion, as seen in the Shen Yun show.

After sharing his thoughts on the healing power of music— which had long been discovered in ancient China—Dr Hu talked about the deep inner meaning contained in most Chinese characters.

For example, the character for “medicine” is derived from the character representing “music”.

“Every facet of traditional Chinese culture is related to both people’s worship of divine beings, and the practices of cultivating Buddhahood or the Tao”, Dr Hu said.

“Listening to music pieces that convey an artist’s pure emotion, helps us to calm down and get rid of the negative thoughts and feelings that we carry around with us in this busy world”, he added.

Ms Cheng, commented on how Shen Yun’s music, dance, costumes and vivid backdrops worked seamlessly together to create a “exquisitely beautiful performance”.

“I also learned from Dr Hu how to calm down my mind, by pressing certain acupuncture points that allows me take deeper breaths before singing”, explained Ms Cheng.

When the introductory talk concluded, Epoch Times spoke with several audience members about their experiences with Shen Yun.

Here’s what they had to say…

(WATCH: Shen Yun Performing Art is amazingly perfect!)

Ms Maggie Shen, Lions’ Club Volunteer:

“Shen Yun Performing Art is amazingly perfect! I’ve been to so many international shows, and I’ve never seen anything like this. I think it’s because they are [reviving] Chinese [culture]. Thus, the performance is relevant to me, as I have some understanding of the arts and Chinese culture.

“The amazing part is that the whole performance is so perfect. There’s not one mistake. The teamwork among the dancers and the orchestra is so perfect. I don’t know how to express it… it’s so perfect. I’m very touched.

“Since I’m of Chinese descendant, I’m very proud of Shen Yun.

“The teamwork shown in Shen Yun tells me that there’s still hope for mankind.

“The storyline is fantastic, too. There’re moral teachings that we can learn from the show. The most amazing part is the animation technology used in Shen Yun. It was very new to me in 2015, when I watched the show.

“I saw dancers fly into the backdrop. I couldn’t explain it. I didn’t know it was 3D, because when watching movies in 3D we have to wear glasses.

“I didn’t need to put on 3D glasses while watching Shen Yun, yet I saw people flying into the sky then just disappear into the backdrop. I feel it’s really fascinating , something very advanced.

“I’ve recommended the show to all of my friends, so that they, too, can witness the performance—because I think it has so much to offer.

“I’m so glad that I got to spend my birthday watching Shen Yun. Although the performance was only two hours long, I still have a very vivid memory of it.

“I now want to watch it every year, but unfortunately in 2016, I had a lot of work to do, so I regrettably missed that show.

“From now on, wherever the performance is, I’ll make sure I’m sitting in the audience!”

(WATCH: Shen Yun transported me to another world!)

Ms Esther Ho, Singaporean Spa Owner:

Ms Ho watched Shen Yun during her 2016 trip to Australia. She found out about Shen Yun from an Epoch Times manager.

“While preparing to attend the Shen Yun performance, I thought it would be just another new show. But as the performance started, the whole setting, the dance and music transported me to another world.

“My body has always been quite sensitive, and I could feel the energy coming through the dance and music.

“I felt like I was in a heavenly place and felt so happy and peaceful from the bottom of my heart. It’s very hard to describe the exact feelings in words; you have to be there to experience it. If there is another opportunity to see the show, I’d like to watch it again”.

Huang He, Renowned Singaporean Teochew Opera Performer/Vocalist

Mr Huang, a vocal coach in Singapore, was professionally trained as a Teochew opera performer. He graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and later received formal training from Professor Gerald Grawford, a famous opera singer, vocal coach and baritone.

While watching a short Shen Yun video trailer 10 years ago, Mr Huang was deeply touched by the truthfulness, kindness and beauty that he had seen and felt at that time.

Although Mr Huang has always wanted to watch Shen Yun live, for various work-related reasons, he has been unable to.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, established in New York in 2006 by elite Chinese artists. They came together with a shared vision and passion—to revive the lost world of traditional Chinese culture and share it with everyone.
