Chicken rice is one of the most popular dishes in Singapore as it is simple yet satisfying. It is also the easiest take-out food that you can conveniently eat with one single spoon as the meat is usually deboned. For this article, we will explore the best chicken rice stalls in the west side of Singapore.

1. Seng Heng Hainanese Chicken Rice

Situated at Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre, this stall is one of the reasons that chicken rice lovers patronise the place. When you reach the food centre, you will see the long queue near Seng Heng Hainanese Chicken Rice even during non-peak hours. It is famous for its deboned white chicken and the fragrant chicken rice that’s not as oily as other chicken rice spots. Even if you order chicken breast, it is still tender and juicy!

Located at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, it is a standalone restaurant. The chicken meat is smooth and full of collagen with its gel-like texture underneath the skin. There are some other signature dishes aside from their famous steamed chicken rice. You can order prawn roll as a side dish, and they also have other main dishes like fried hokkien mee. Curry fish head is another one of the famous dishes in the restaurant.

This stall uses kampung chicken (free range chicken) which means leaner meat, lesser fat and cholesterol, hence providing you with a healthier version of chicken rice. Despite the lean meat, they still manage to preserve the juiciness of the chicken. It is located at Cheong Chin Nam Road near Beauty World MRT. The restaurant offers other zi char dishes like its famous pork belly, signature tofu, sweet and sour pork, prawn paste chicken and more.

4. Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice

This is a food stall located at 371 Bukit Batok Street 31. Though they always have long queues, they manage it well and have a very good queuing system, such that you’ll be able to get your food with a 10-15 minute wait. Both the roasted chicken and steamed chicken are juicy, tender and succulent, with a flavourful soy sauce gravy. You can also order fatty Char Siew, crispy lemon chicken, crispy fried tofu and more from the stall.

This is a hidden gem that is usually patronised by the neighbourhood, It is situated at 354 Clementi Ave 2 and is a certified Halal chicken rice. Try their gelatinous steamed chicken with chicken rice, especially with their signature Achar. You can order their sambal kangkong and other signature dishes to go along too.

6. Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice

It is located at 450 Clementi Ave 3, and belongs to the same owner as the famous Maxwell market’s Tian Tian Chicken Rice. The taste is as good as the Maxwell branch with a cheaper price to boot. The chicken is tender and fresh, with a layer of gelatinous fat between the skin and the meat. They serve a big bowl of soup together too. There’s a lesser crowd here in this branch compared to the Maxwell market stall.

7. Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice

Located in JEM Shopping Mall, it is actually a Thai restaurant that also has branches. The chicken is soft and the soup is flavourful, and it goes very well together with their chilli. There are also other signature Thai dishes that you can order, such as mango glutinous rice, spicy fried tofu, tom yum, and fried kailan. It’s highly recommended if you are craving Thai food and chicken rice!

Another hidden gem located in NEWest mall in the West Coast. The chicken is tender and juicy even if it is just chicken breast, with exceptionally fragrant rice. Their chicken gizzards are also highly recommended too. Not only that, crispy tofu and the prawn rolls are loved by most of their regular customers. It’s worth a try!

Founded in 1987, this legacy stall with a rich history has preserved its original recipe for decades. In the West, you can visit the Jurong Point branch. The texture of the chicken is soft and tender, and it is accompanied with fragrant rice cooked with pandan leaves. You can dip with its in-house chilli and ginger sauce. There are lots of other dishes to order along with too.
