What was once referred to as the home to all things digital and tech has finally reopened after three years and a $560 million make over! Funan Mall is back and it’s the latest shopping mall by Capitaland, we must say Funan is a mall unlike any other. The futuristic mall boasts six storeys and houses more than 180 different tenants, there’s literally no way you could say you can’t find something for yourself in the new Funan Mall. Let’s cut to the chase and take a look at the reasons why you should visit Funan Mall.
1. Tree of Life
Funan’s steel Tree of Life is 25 meter tall and extends from the basement to the fourth floor of the mall. The Tree of Life is meant for entrepreneurs who are looking to rent for a short term use. There’s a total of 20 retail pods available, which can be used for conducting workshops or pop-up stores. An indoor amphitheatre is right beneath the Tree and can seat around 150 people – a good place to take a rest after all the shopping!
2. Indoor Cycling
Hurray for cycling enthusiasts! Funan is the first mall ever to incorporate a dedicated indoor cycling track for all. Cyclists are welcome to clock in their cycle time from 7am-10am daily at no more than 10km/hour. There’s even a bicycle hub for cyclists with various amenities such as lockers, bicycle maintenance and most importantly shower facilities! Yes, cyclists can get their shower after a ride and cool down before heading off. All you need to do is to download their app, CapitaStar.
3. Rock Climbing @ Climb Central
It seems the new Funan is all about promoting a healthy lifestyle. Have you ever seen a mall with an indoor rock climbing facility? Get your adrenaline pumping and experience your first rock climb! There are a total of 50 lanes and you get to explore different routes and levels of difficulty. The tallest of them all boasts a 15 meter high climb.
4. KOPItech
The food court in Funan is operated by the same folks behind Kopitiam. What’s different here in Funan is that they have automated ordering machines. You can place your order at the machine, pay for your meal and collect your food once it’s ready.
5. ABC Cooking Studio
ABC Cooking Studio opens its latest studio at Funan. Take the opportunity to learn cooking in a fun filled environment with ABC. If you’re new to cooking, fret not, ABC Cooking Studio offers beginner lessons, with a wide range of recipes such as bread, cake and western food. The courses come in all levels of difficulty, suitable for new and pro home chefs alike. You can also enroll in their trial class before deciding on any course.
6. Golden Village Funan
Experience what it’s like to be in the gaming and cinematic universe at Golden Village. Golden Village is equipped with four VR (Virtual Reality) pods that have a range of games and cinema entertainment. Enjoy a 3-minute trial on the VR goggles, which is open to the public, and cinema goers can enjoy 15 minutes of VR with each ticket purchased. This is definitely a must-experience outlet in Funan.
7. COURTS
Apart from the many tech and electronic stores in Funan, Courts Singapore opens its first IoT-themed (Internet of Things) outlet. The 12,000 square feet houses Google’s first experience zone in Southeast Asia and also the largest Samsung Smart Home retail concept store. Customers are able to get a first hand experience of the entire range of Google products. You will also be greeted by Court’s very own in-store robot assistant, GT Assiststar, ready to be of help anytime.
8. Love, Bonito
Love, Bonito opens its largest physical store to date right in Funan. Not only does it sport a pretty blush pink and Instagrammable feature walls, the local label also features an exclusive Augmented Reality (AR) Walkway. Girls, you now can scan the QR Code and flowers will start blooming right by your feet. Grab your girlfriends, head to Love, Bonito’s Infinity Mirror Room to take that perfect OOTD shot. If you’re having a hard time choosing what suits you, be on the lookout for their on-demand stylists!
9. The Ark
Head to the rooftop and play a game of futsal with your friends! The artificial grass futsal court is operated by The Ark and can take up to 10 players each time at the unmanned facility. If you wish to play a game or two, be sure to book the court using the CapitaStar app. This could be the new place for a workout session just to change things up a little.
10. Urban Farm
Located at the rooftop of Funan, the Urban Farm is 5,000 square feet and operated by Edible Garden City. Shoppers can head up there for some fresh air and change of environment after spending the whole day shopping. The Urban Farm grows pesticide-free vegetables, herbs and fruits, using both outdoor soil-based and indoor farming methods. Shoppers can also learn about how vegetables are grown and harvested, which is also a good learning experience for children. You can pick your own vegetables to enjoy at the Japanese restaurant, Noka, located right beside the farm.
11. Noka
A Japanese concept by Spa Esprit Group and headed by chef Seki Takuma, Noka is accessible by walking through the lush greenery of The Urban Farm and is decorated elegantly with glass-walled dining rooms. The restaurant boasts a farm-to-table concept, where they get most of their produce from the garden itself. Dining customers are able to choose their own freshly harvested greens such as okra, basil and mushrooms to be cooked at the restaurant.
12. Godmama
For more local fare, Godmama is a newly opened modern Peranakan restaurant and bar. Godmama serves up more than just traditional Peranakan cuisines. Some of the dishes are recreated with a twist and few of their mouth-watering dishes include Babi Assam and crispy Ngoh Hiang. Enjoy a Nyonya influenced cocktail like the Peranakan Blue – which is a butterfly pea flower gin & tonic.
13. PPP Coffee
Most of you must know about the coffee brand Papa Palheta that’s responsible for bringing the 3rd wave coffee culture into Singapore. If you don’t, well now you know! They recently rebranded into PPP Coffee and opened a brand new outlet in Funan. With their recent rebranding initiative, coffee lovers can expect a slew of new unique coffee offerings as well as their classic yet fueling coffee. The open bar concept also allows for greater customer-barista interaction, which can be educational for coffee patrons.
