A national gem in Singapore’s hawker scene, satay is a skewer of meat marinated and barbecued to perfection. Truly a heartwarming dish for dinner, reunions and gatherings, satay is a dish to share. Here are 10 of the best hawker centre stalls selling the best and most unique satay dishes.

1. Chomp Chomp Satay

Located at the infamous Chomp Chomp Food Centre, their satay is well known throughout Singapore. With pork, chicken and mutton options, their satay is always marinated well and cooked to  succulent perfection. It costs from $0.50 a piece and goes with their handmade ketupat. Head down to Serangoon Gardens to sample their great food and satay!

2. Haron Satay

Haron Satay or Haron 55 Satay is a Malaysian-Muslim style stall that has been around for a long time. Priced at $0.70 per stick, this store serves up juicy chicken, mutton and beef satay. Located at East Coast Lagoon Food Village, the satay comes in generous portions and is paired with a chunky peanut gravy. This store is truly a cult favourite!

3. Victor Veggie

Made from soy protein, their vegetarian satay is a great alternative for vegetarians looking to satisfy their hawker cravings. Victor Veggie sells their satay at $0.80 per stick and has a minimum order of 10. Their satay has a fibrous texture similar to meat and is immensely popular even amongst meat eaters. Trick a bunch of friends into trying some good vegetarian satay!

4. TKR Satay

TKR satay is known for their barbequed meats and one of their most popular dishes is the satay. At $0.60 a stick, their satay  was famously portrayed in Crazy Rich Asians at Newton Food Centre. Open till 2am, the satay is grilled over charcoal fire and is a great supper meal amongst friends!

5. Satay by the Bay

This satay is located at the foodcourt of Gardens by the Bay. Don’t be too surprised at the location of this stall, it’s surprisingly affordable at $0.70 a stick. With a wide variety of meat selection, it’s a favourite amongst tourists and locals after a long walk at the gardens. Choices start from pork, pork belly, squid, octopus, chicken, lamb and beef.

6. Chuan Kee Satay

Chuan Kee is most famous for their Hainanese pork satay and is the “Holy Grail” for many. Served with mashed pineapple satay gravy, their satay is consistently grilled evenly and runs out very fast due to its overwhelming popularity. It’s marinated with a golden sweet syrup with herbs like lemongrass and coriander. Popular especially amongst those craving for an indulgent meal, it’s slightly greasy but always satisfying.

7. Lau Pa Sat

Lau Pa Sat or Telok Ayer Market is infamous for being a street full of satay stores, with the most famous being Stall 7 and 8. With a minimum order of 10 sticks and $0.70 per stick, it goes well with their rice cake and spiced peanut sauce. It’s perfect for dinners as the place comes alive after 7pm. We recommend their unique skewered barbequed prawns which makes for a great dinner and an Instagram-worthy shot!

8. Al-Azhar

One of the best late night supper spots in the West, Al-Azhar has awesome satay alongside other Indian-Muslim food. Coming in either chicken or mutton, their satay is often best served alongside other notable dishes like their butter chicken curry and marsala. Their mutton satay is charcoal grilled, served in large chunks and is on the leaner side. It’s also Muslim-owned!

9. Chong Pang Satay

The irresistible smoky aroma is apparent from the well-grilled and seasoned satay, with a good fat to meat ratio. Offering chicken, pork, mutton and beef options, they serve it with fresh peeled cucumbers and onions. We also recommend getting their barbequed wings to top off the dinner and also not to forget their smooth peanut sauce that elevates the dish to another level. It costs $0.60 a stick and has a minimum order of 10 sticks.

10. Chai Ho Satay

Another famous stall, Chai Ho serves up highly affordable satay at $0.42 per stick. Seductively smokey and charred over a charcoal flame, the peanut sauce does not disappoint with its thick and fragrant texture. The satay also comes with a thin layer of fat in between each morsel of meat, lending a crisp texture and unbelievable fragrance with each bite. Head down to Clementi 448 Market and Food Centre to have a indulgent dinner under $5!
